Crime Sans Frontieres

Now available in Japanese, with a US edition out soon, too>
This book is now available in a Japanese edition, with a US edition due out soon, I hear. Slowly, this book has gathered a following and a movie version is no doubt in the cards someday. YOU CAN FIND christopher belton's homepage by doing a search under his name... and read more about CRIMES SANS FRONTIERES, titled KOKKYO NAKI HANZAI in Japanese.

A well-researched techno-thriller that never stumbles.
In "Crimes Sans Frontieres," first-time author Christopher Belton takes us on a lightning tour of the globe chasing down an international computer crime so thoroughly researched, detailed and plausible that one wonders if Belton hadn't given thought to pulling it off himself. It is exactly that attention to detail that keeps the reader suspending disbelief from start to finish, immersed in a world of high-tech espionage that makes one think twice about "information security." "Crimes..." is a refreshing newcomer to a genre that has all too often offered clumsy formulaic tales of late.

It's fun, fast-paced, intelligent adventure.
I thoroughly enjoyed author Belton's book, a technothriller with most of the action taking place in Japan. It's a pleasure to be able to see the country and its customs through the eyes of a Westerner who has lived there for a long period of time.

Belton demonstrates knowldge of international policing agencies as well as those in Japan. He writes with authority about the politics within these places and the types of personalities that work there.

The characters have depth and complexity, which adds to the reader's entertainment. The plot line is credible and lively.

The story starts when staff at an arm of the United Nations become aware of a startling increase in computer crimes, many with some relationship to Japanese firms. A brief investigation leads to the death of a detective in Tokyo and to some behind-the-scenes attempts at a cover up. As part of the scheme to prevent law enforcement from finding the gangsters responsible, a government ally of the Yakuza asks that Western operatives be brought in.

The Westerners are spied on until they go to ground and the chase--and tricks--begin.

The story is definitely for those who like their crime fiction with plenty of fight scenes and close calls.

Art: The World of Art, from Aboriginal to American Pop, Renaissance Masters to Postmodernism

Delicious gift for the artist or art lover!
As an artist, I appreciated this large reference on many levels. First, it's alphabetical layout is interesting as it tends to lend equal weight to each artist be they Rembrandt or Frida Kahlo. Next, the hundreds of beautiful color reproductions on almost every page, short bios on the artist, the movement he or she was involved in; made me want to investigate lesser known artists. Great for the student of art or art history! I recommend this highly. Pull up a cozy chair and enjoy.

Ernestine & Amanda: Summer Camp Ready or Not (Aladdin Fiction)

Author: Sandra Belton

this Forty-something enjoyed this book!
I bought the whole series for my eleven year-old neice. I thought this would be a nice departure from the Babysitter Club since it features African American little girls. I happened to bring the book into the hairdresser by mistake and read the whole thing thoroughly enjoying. I was able to relive some of my childhood and my neice was exposed to the culture of the fifties in a Jim Crow south done lovingly and with care. I applaud Miss Belton for her insightful series.

Another Ernestine and Amanda worth reading
This is Belton's third book in this series about two middle-class African-American girls in the 1950's. The girls are now 6th graders dealing with problems and fears that are common to any child in any decade. Lessons on how to deal with stage fright, family relationships, loyalty, friendship, exclusive clubs and Black History are all taught in a story form that holds the reader's interest. As an elementary school librarian I highly recommend this book and look forward to adding the next installment to our collection.

Pictures for Miss Josie
Published in Library Binding by Amistad Press (25 March, 2003)
Authors: Sandra Belton and Benny Andrews
Average review score:

Concerning the importance of believing in oneself
Pictures For Miss Josie is a remarkable picture book by Sandra Belton based on the life of celebrated African-American artist Josephine Carroll Smith. Slightly abstract yet vivid color illustrations by Benny Andrews complement this glowing portrayal of Miss Josie and her exhortations concerning the importance of believing in oneself and rising to one's fullest potential. Pictures For Miss Josie is very highly recommended for school and community library picture book collections.

Showstoppers
Published in Hardcover by Columbia University Press (15 October, 1993)
Authors: Martin Rubin and John Belton
Average review score:

A Busby Berkeley Spectacular!
The "Berkeleyesque" dance number is one that "depends on sheer spectacle, on the deployment of hordes of chorus dancers in a grandiose setting." Ever since I became aware of Busby Berkeley's spectacular musical productions during a film history course in college 20 years ago, I've longed for a comprehensive look at his films and career. Showstoppers is the Berkeley Bible!

Showstoppers is divided into three parts, the first of which describes Berkeley's inimitable style, the elements that distinguish his work from others, and it's roots. Part II looks at his Broadway theater career during the second half of the 1920s. The meat of the story is presented in Part III, comprising 3/4 of the book, which describes in 7 chapters his cinema career spanning from 1930 to 1962. Each of his films is examined and includes references to the photos which are presented in two groups.

Showstoppers contains 248 pages of text plus 62 pages of production still photos of Berkeley's numbers. Although the black and white photos are not enlargements of actual frames from the films, they depict real sets and actors and, in some cases, show production equipment not visible in the film such as camera tracks in one instance. They are professionally lit, well printed and the captions informative. I highly recommend this book to any Berkeley buff, film fan, or lover of the musical spectacle on film.

Speak My Name
Published in Paperback by Beacon Press (June, 1997)
Author: Don Belton
Average review score:

real picture from the right people
Let me mention that, i haven't finished reading the entire compilation yet. After reading the first part of this book I'm compelled to write something about it. This book is the real thing. A collection of true experiences from the true people. It talks about black masculinity and the American Dream from the hearts of some of the most well-known contemporary African American writers. One can enter the very personal cores of an African-American soul through these stories. The exact picture can be comprehended. I recommend it to people of all color but most definitely to the white folk. I hate to hear people saying, America is *one* now and African-Americans aren't disadvantaged anymore. You'll understand why America is still not a peaceful multi-racial zone. I will shut up here and let the book do the rest of the talking. Recommended.

Yet another masterpiece for the doctor
After reading the Doctors masterpiece three times, i had enough of his theta gamma explanations. I am an avid reader who greatly enjoyed the Doctor's complicated explanations. I totally agree with Elvis. Great work again doctor

Top class reference
I've been working in Futures & Options research for 3 years now, and this has proven to be the best refernce guide available. Terrence elucidates the concepts and mechanisms underlying the treasury bond basis with eloquence and intellect. His other work, Eurodollar Futures and Options, is also a great reference for the shorter end of the curve.

THE textbook for basis trading
This is simply the only truly readable and authoritative book on its subject. Terry Belton is acknowledged as being the foremost authority on futures research, and this book bears it out. If you're thinking about basis trading, or work in the derivatives market, this book is well worth a look.

(I should also mention that Terry is my boss..doesn't stop it being a good book, though. Hope I get that raise!)
